The ULM-45 Jäger
A man-portable, tube-launched loitering munition, engineered by Volaris Defence Technologies to give small units their own precision strike capability, without depending on external fire support.
What follows is the capability the Jäger is designed and engineered to deliver, grounded in a finalised architecture and completed sub-scale flight testing.
Persistent overwatch and precision strike, carried by the unit that needs it.
Small units are routinely asked to hold ground, gather intelligence, and respond to threats without waiting on assets that live above their level. The Jäger is built to close that gap: a system one operator can carry, deploy, and control, giving the unit its own persistent eye and its own precision strike capability, without depending on external fire support.
It launches from a compact tube, requires no runway or external infrastructure, and is designed around the reality of dismounted, austere operations, not adapted from a larger platform after the fact.
What the Jäger is engineered to do.
Each of these is a design commitment carried through the architecture, not a claim about a finished production round.
Man-portable deployment
Carried, assembled, and launched by a single operator, with no external launch infrastructure required.
Tube launch
A compact launch tube minimises setup time and the unit's exposure during deployment.
Loitering persistence
Built to remain on-station over an area of interest, rather than deliver a single pass and return.
Precision strike
Carries a warhead engineered to deliver a lethal effect on target, sized to the threat the unit is actually facing.
Operator-in-the-loop
Engagement authority sits with the operator throughout, target identification through to the strike decision.
Attritable cost profile
Engineered for production and fielding at a cost that supports genuine expendable use, not just the appearance of it.
Where things stand today.
The programme has moved in deliberate stages, from architecture to flight, ahead of any formal contract requiring it.
Architecture Finalised
The Jäger's core design architecture is locked and carried through to every system decision since.
Sub-Scale Flight Testing
Sub-scale flight testing has been completed, validating the design's core aerodynamic and launch behaviour.
Full-Scale Validation
The next phase moves the programme from sub-scale testing to a full-scale demonstration.
Built onshore, not imported.
Sovereign capability isn't just a design philosophy, it's a manufacturing commitment. Structural production and system integration are held onshore in Australia from the outset, not offshored for cost and reshored later once it's politically convenient.
The path to scale is staged deliberately: sourcing commodity components internationally where volume and cost make sense early on, while keeping structural production and final integration in Australian hands throughout. The goal is a fully sovereign, Australian-built supply chain, no foreign licensing, no single-source dependency, no capability that disappears the moment an export control changes.
This is bigger than one programme. It's a conviction that runs through everything Volaris builds: capability worth having is capability you can build yourself.
